The Civic Museums of Cagliari have payed attention to the world of graphic art more than once, as well as they have already shown a particular interest to Mimmo Paladino – among the greatest contemporary figurative Italian artists and exponent of the Transavantgarde, buying five sculptures of the series “I Dormienti”. The artworks, included in the civic collections since 2012, currently welcome visitors in the basins at the entrance of the Municipal Art Gallery.
Paladino’s approach to the graphic artwork is intriguing indeed, just like the relationship between word and image has always been in the history of art. A relationship to whom, over the years, the versatile artist Paladino has revealed a special attraction, also due to his education, filled of both literary and figurative art.
The experimentations and the inventions that he carries out in his graphic works, following his visionary will more than the “rules of engraving” , as well as the collaborations with poets and writers to realise several precious art books, characterize more than thirty years of his activity.
The exhibition traces the graphic adventure of Mimmo Paladino since the mid-90s, through the selection of about eighty works (provided by Editalia - an historic Roman publishing house, part since 1991 of the group Istituto Poligrafico and Zecca dello Stato- and by Colophon Arte), with two unpublished works for Italy, which highlight, how congenial is for the Campanian artist this medium of expression for a "full and deepened manifestation of his peculiar and secret imaginative world," as well emphasizes Enzo Di Martino, an expert in Paladino's art and also author of the catalogue of the exhibition.
