Shapes and geometries of light
The relentless pursuit – abstract, geometric and chromatic – of one of the most important italian artists of XX century, in the 100 anniversary of her birth: Lia Drei. The exhibition entitled “Shapes and geometries of light” let us relive all the steps in her production through 24 works that describe Lia Drei's artistic evolution and her persistent investigation about shape and color perception.
Born in Rome in 1922, being the daughter of painter and sculptor Ercole Drei, since her childhood she practiced figurative art and the she moved to New York for a few years. Come back to Italy, with a huge background of interests (music, literature, sports and science) she started  “Gruppo '63”, an artistic experimental movement.
Her creative pursuit is mainly concentrated on perception and vision. Understanding limitations in depiction, she began breaking this “obligation” on canvas, using colours to create new expressive solutions.
The city of Cagliari dedicates this exhibition to an artist involved in Ugo Ugo contemporary arts collection, created in between '60 and '70, in which two of her works are included.
