Corto Maltese Towards New Routes
Hugo Pratt Exhibition
“Corto Maltese towards new routes”. The adventurous journey of the most famous sailor in the world of comics makes a stop in Cagliari. From Genoa, the character created in 1967 by the inspiration of the unforgettable cartoonist and writer Hugo Pratt, arrives at Palazzo di Città.
The exhibition dedicated to him will be set up in its rooms, on three floors, from August 6th to December 4th.
The exhibition will be embellished with a graphic animation show to immerse yourself in the stories of the beloved sailor. Among these, I Mari del Sud, inside which you will also find the helmet of a vintage diving suit and a sculpture-reproduction of a Shardana warrior, offered on loan by the Navy.
Also the exhibition space in the departures terminal of Cagliari Elmas Airport will host a tribute to the work of Pratt with an exhibition entitled The sky above Cagliari by the artist Bob Marongiu curated by the International Center for Comics.
The Historical Archive, the Library of Sardinian Studies and the entire municipal library system flank the main exhibition with a bibliographic and documentary selection, representative of the entire municipal heritage. Bibliographic showcases will be set up in the various locations of the Library System with modern material, books and comics, available for home loan. Obviously, all the possessions relating to Pratt's comic production will be made available to the public.
The documentary and bibliographic exhibition, entitled Angels in the clouds, hosted at the MEM - Mediateca del Mediterraneo, was created by the library and archival staff working at the Municipality. The main themes in the choice of materials recall the idea of travel and exotic destinations, the discovery of new and unknown worlds, taking up both the legendary adventures of Corto Maltese and the no less romantic life of Pratt himself.
