Traditional Christmas Markets in Cagliari

This event is related to the sections: Exhibitions

The magic of Christmas comes to town

The magic of the traditional Christmas markets is back in town.

For the fourth year in a row, the centre of Cagliari will host numerous wooden huts to offer citizens and tourists handicraft products, gifts, sweets, liqueurs and many objects created by hobbyists and local associations, but also Christmas decorations and gifts to put under the tree or delicacies to cook and serve during lunches and festive holiday meals.

This year the event will be even bigger and will involve Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, Piazza Yenne and Piazza del Carmine, for a total of 81 huts. Also the historic districts will participate in the event with the aim of rediscovering the historic centre and its activities and involving the public not only in purchasing typical products but also in discovering living and usable public spaces. The Marina district, along with the two shoppig streets of Via Manno and Via Garibaldi, will promote itinerant initiatives and events.

Once again, it will be like living in a small village, in a natural shopping centre, offering a great opportunity for all visitors, that will be able to find many different things to do, to buy and to taste.

One of the strengths of this year's Christmas Market will be its "green" side: it will be a zero-impact event, in full respect of the environment, but also conceived as a place to optimize consumption, maximizing the efficiency and limiting waste. Among the strong signals that we would like to send out, disposable plastic will be banned.

Contrary to common belief, innovation will not be represented by technology but by the rediscovery of handcrafted arts and creativity. Any initiative related to the promotion or use of mobile phones or tablets by children will be banned, in line with what pediastric studies suggest, to foster relationships between children, parents and the surrounding world.
