A renewed set-up for the Municipal Art Gallery

From 1933 to 1999, the Municipal Art Gallery collected in three different nucleus (Sardinian Collection, Contemporary Collection and Ingrao Collection) some of the most relevant artistic expressions of the “short twentieth century”, as so defined by Eric  H.  Hobsbawm, characterized by conflicts between different economical and political systems.

Preceded by the Academic art, the masterpieces by Giacomo Balla and Umberdo Boccioni, prelude to the avant-garde, are exhibited in the hall of  Divisionism and Futurism, but in a permanent dialogue with Francesco Ciusa’s sculptures, gathered in a specific hall.

The art experiments acquired by the Gallery between 1968 and 1974, under the direction of Ugo Ugo, irrupt in the central hall on the first floor, evoking the impetuous effects of the late 20th century art movements on the composure of figurative arts, richly testified by Ingrao Collection.
