Thirty artists for the climate and environment emergency

"Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?"
Butterfly Effect is the title of the new exhibition hosted by Il Ghetto Municipal Art Centre from January 31th.
Conceived and curated by Roberta Vanali and realized in collaboration with the Consorzio Camù, the exhibition starts from the concept of the butterfly effect, metaphor of the Catastrophe Theory founded by the French mathematician Renè Thom, according to which even small variations in the initial conditions can produce large variations in the long-term behaviour of a system.
Starting from these premises, 30 artists are invited to reflect on the causes and consequences of climate change. According to the fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC (the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), greenhouse gas emissions and human activities are responsible for global warming: if not managed, this situation will produce irreversible consequences on people and ecosystems.
